Grappling back up the hill to normal day to day living.

Since I last posted anything on the blog, my family and I have suffered a major loss.

My lovely Dad passed away on 27th May.

His final illness was short but how he struggled to live.  A Silent Sunday photo I had shared was of my hand holding his, during that time.

He did come home again, albeit only for 9 days, before he was rushed back to the hospital.

I miss him dearly.

I will always love him.

His funeral was yesterday... I was grateful, as were all of my family, to be surrounded by so many caring friends and relatives..I hope he would have approved of his service.

One of his favourite songs was played during the service..

Here are the lyrics..

I come to the garden alone
While the dew is still on the roses
And the voice I hear falling on my ear
The Son of God discloses.
Refrain

And He walks with me, and He talks with me,
And He tells me I am His own;
And the joy we share as we tarry there,
None other has ever known.

He speaks, and the sound of His voice,
Is so sweet the birds hush their singing,
And the melody that He gave to me
Within my heart is ringing.

Refrain

I’d stay in the garden with Him
Though the night around me be falling,
But He bids me go; through the voice of woe
His voice to me is calling.

Refrain

My Dad's song on youtube

I think it will take me some time to be able to listen to this song again without shedding tears...

I didn't kill them!

Back in November I pruned the rose bushes out front.  Not really knowing what I was doing, it has to be said.

I'm so glad to report today, that they are, all 3 of them, alive and growing still!

A bit of happiness for me on a pain filled day!

My first Handmade Monday

I don't have any finished items to share with you all today, but you can be sure I'll keep you up to date with my progress!

I've always fancied having a go at knitting socks, but for one reason or another, I never have.  Probably because of the 5 needle palarva...so when my mother told me she'd found a pattern for socks using only 2 needles which she thought I might be interested in, I jumped at it.

And, seeing as how sleep was eluding me last night, I cast on at midnight!  Already I have the inch of K1 P1 rib done..

I'll be tucking this piece into my bag when I go off to work..the tunic and the blanket I'm also working on are just too big right now to take along with me (in my opinion) so the size of this sock is ideal for me to take and work on in my break!

There's actually no shortage of things I want to make..just picked up this book last week (cheap) which is full  of patterns.  My mum would like the koala, I like the snake and He loves monkeys...so I'll have to get started on these too!

And, because I like a challenge, and because I so thoroughly enjoyed the workshop Jill ran for card making...well, I'm going to stretch my mind a bit and try to make some cards.  This is such an interesting magazine to look through.

So inconsiderate of work to get in the way of crafting though, don't you think?  Fortunately, some things don't take too long to do..for instance, this pot!  A broken pot may not always be rubbish.. I'm really pleased with what I did with this one.. filled it with soil, a few hen and chicks, a stone for interest, and I used a broken brick to arrange it...hopefully, the plants will grow and trail around quite nicely!

Wishing you all a Happy Bank Holiday Monday!

Self Portrait - The Gallery

Glad that I saw Dawn's post on this earlier..gives me some blogging mojo again for today!

:)

Took this picture ...well, I can't remember exactly when, but know it was December or January..and yes, I think I was about to go out.  But I can't remember where either.

I do remember why I took it though.

My niece..my young, photogenic, musical niece!  She is very good at taking her own picture...and when I told her that I couldn't ever get anything decent of myself, she challenged me!  So I did it!

Z is for..well, this is the great debate!

I wonder how many British children grew up listening to this song?  I remember Sesame Street being on television here and listening to it, for sure.  And I know that my own children grew up with it..but that was in the States, so it was the norm there.

Of course, this is the song where Z is zee...and not zed.

:)

Yes, I'm a full blown English woman.  And I grew up with Zed.  As in bed.

But then over the years I lived in the States, I found myself slipping into the land of Zee.

For instance, this project has been the A to Z(ee) Challenge.

But those black and white creatures who look a bit like horses are zebras not (zee)bras.

Odd isn't it...so many English speaking countries in the world, but we have our own different spins on the language!

And there it is.  A to Z Challenge 2013 completed.  It's been fun.
